Floor coverers install a wide variety of flooring materials, including carpet, resilients, wood, laminates, and sport surfaces. They are experts at estimating materials; understanding pattern layout; and safely and properly using the industry's many tools, adhesives, and fastening systems. Professional floor coverers from the UBC are found in commercial, residential, and institutional settings. Work is often done based on specifications of architects, facility managers or interior designers.

UBC floor covering professionals receive both classroom and hands-on training at state-of-the-art training centers around the country. Initial training for apprentices and skill-enhancement courses for journeymen are taught by industry veterans or industry and manufacturer technical experts. Subjects range from basic skills to new technologies, tools, and/or installation methods. This comprehensive training translates into unmatched productivity by UBC members for their employers.

Safety, a top priority for every flooring contractor and crew, is a constant element of training. Topics include Infrastructure Health and Safety Association certifications, personal and tenant protection , containing contaminants, material handling, and more.
